1st University Championships takes place at Newcastle University

The 1st University Chess Championships, run by She Plays To Win, took place on Saturday 16th November 2024 at Newcastle University.

32 male and female students took part in the 5 round rapidplay event. These students came from a variety of different universities across the UK.

Kavin Velmurugan won the Open section with 5 wins from 5 games. Rose Wabuti and Flossie Wilson won the top female prize with 3 wins from their 5 games.

In the female only section, Lipika Jadwani and Zosia Johnson shared first with 4 wins from 5 games.

Well done to all the students for playing chess in a jovial manner, and to Newcastle University and chess society for their support in helping SPTW run the event.
