250 girls at the ECF National Girls Schools Championships

The English Chess Federation’s flagship event for girls, the National Girls Schools Championships, took place on Sunday 10th October 2022 at St Catherine’s School, Bramley.

School teams of 3 girls were invited from across England, both in the Primary (Under 11) and Secondary (Under 19) events.

Over 80 schools teams participated in what was noted as the largest ever girls chess event staged in the UK. It was run by IM Andrew Martin on behalf of the ECF and sponsored by St Catherine’s School, who have for many years supported this event.

You can see on our thumbnail photo just how packed the hall was of female chess players from across England!

This was the semi final and 7 school teams made it through to the finals which will take place in April 2023. Well done to these teams;
