Euro stars training by Camelia & Elisabeth

Sunday 12th June saw WIM Camelia Ciobanu and IM Elizabeth Paehtz do euro female stars training for SPTW girls.

53 girls attended across both sessions, which was a fantastic turnout.

Camelia Ciobanu is a Woman International Master (WIM) from Romania.

31 girls attended Camelia’s session, for girls rated below 1700 Lichess rating.

The girls did puzzles to warm up followed by analysis of one of Cami’s games in the Queens Gambit Opening.

Afterwards, girls played in the weekly SPTW online tournament to try and put their new found skills into practice.

Elisabeth Paehtz is an International Master (IM) and the world number 15 female player. She has strong credentials behind her; she was World Under 20 Girls Champion, World Under 18 Girls Champion and is the number 1 German female player.

22 girls attended Elisabeth’s Elite training session, where girls were put through their paces in a variety of different positions by Elisabeth. The elite girls found it tough but learned a lot.

The hope is that our SPTW girls were really inspired by Elisabeth and Camelia, and judging from the feedback after the session they were both well received!

Girls received these sessions for free as part of SPTW’s commitment to offer opportunities for ALL girls in the UK to play and learn chess.
