SPTW v Rocket Experience Team Blitz Event

Saturday 8th January 2022 saw a special invited blitz chess event between 7 selected female players representing She Plays To Win, taking on the Rocket Experience Team.

This team of male players were rated FIDE 2000-2300, but specialise in ‘blitz’ chess (3 minutes per player plus 2 seconds added per move).

The event was held in London Kings Cross, with all players wearing masks throughout the games.

Each player played the opposing 7 players twice, with both white and black, so the event was held over 14 rounds.

The action was fast and furious, most games running down to just seconds each per player. Our thumbnail picture shows SPTW young stars Alisha and Emily taking on their stronger opponents.

Top scorers per team were Woman International Master and current England Women’s Rapidplay Champion, Lan Yao for SPTW, and Donny Muter for the Rocket Team. Both players won £100 for their efforts. Alisha Vyas won the Top Under 18 prize.

The event was certainly a success and there is talk of a rematch later on in 2022!
